During WW2 those in the military often spent downtime crafting Trench Art or Sweetheart Jewellery - using things they had on them. This amazing bracelet features Australian threepence and sixpence pieces from 1938-1944. Each coin has been rounded and then joined with rudimentary jump rings. The clasp has also been fashioned from the coins - and all of this suggests that if not made at war, that this was a handcrafted sweetheart bracelet made soon after.
Sixpences have found their way into bracelets because of the old rhyme "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe". Seen to be lucky and a very appropriate sweetheart gift for the girl you intended to marry.
Australian sixpence (and threepence) pieces of the time were made of 92.5% silver - which also helped that link to the old rhyme.
We adore the history and romance of the bracelet and the rudimentary craftsmanship is charming. Perhaps family members were engaged over the war and this is a way to honour them and the family history. Trench Art has become collectable - and it is no wonder when you get to see the ingenuity of the men - trapped away from loved ones - using what they had to create tokens of love for those back home.

FAQ
Sizing
What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.
We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.
Current prices are: $40 for sizing down, $40 for rhodium plating (all white gold rings), and sizing up starts at $50 - and depends on the carat of gold, width of band and number of sizes. These are subject to change at any time and remain linked to the volatile changes in precious metals.
Time frames - sizing is usually complete within 3 weeks.
