Having started our own obsession with coins and building a family tree of coins, the hoard quickly grew. In it we found space for amazing pieces not related to us in any way shape or form. When we found the coin frame of Faustina Jr and released her to the shop we realised just how popular coins and coin frames are, and it was not just us (I guess I have always figured my penchant for hoarding, coins and rum made me a pirate in a past life - but lots of you it seems have the itch too!).
Over the last couple of years we have purchased items that have turned out to be too broken to repair, so they have sat there gathering dust. Until, eureka, we figured out that we do not have to scrap them and send them off for refining instead we can use them to have hand made coin frames custom made by our amazing jewellers to fit each coin. We will be bringing a set of designs, but they will always end up being unique as they will each be handmade.
This coin is from the Golden Horde (what a name!) and they ruled in the Mongol Empire in the 13th Century. This coin (according the the very knowledgeable Japanese collector we got it from) was able to tell us that this coin is a Dirham from The Khan of the Golden Horde, Jānī Beg Mahmud Khan (742-58H / 1341-57AD). Famed for killing off his siblings to achieve power, and using corpses in warfare (which is said to have spread the Black Death to Europe) this was a fearsome leader.
This frame is made from a rounded off 9ct gold with four claws and a fabulous tear drop profile bail.

FAQ
Sizing
What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.
We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.
Current prices are: $40 for sizing down, $40 for rhodium plating (all white gold rings), and sizing up starts at $50 - and depends on the carat of gold, width of band and number of sizes. These are subject to change at any time and remain linked to the volatile changes in precious metals.
Time frames - sizing is usually complete within 3 weeks.
