Constantine the Great - famed for bringing Christianity to Rome, and for the city of Constantinople which was re-named in his honour. As the crucial city that joined Asia and Europe (what is now called Istanbul) this shows the power of this man and the impact he had then, and now! This amazing bronze coin is fabulously clear - with Constantine's profile on the front, and the latin for "Our Lord Constantine, Great Emperor" surrounding him. The back has the laurel wreath we have all long associated with roman rule and words and dates of production (hence being able to date it). We love the darkness of the coin, the precision and detail of the imprints and against the 9ct gold it glows.
Over the last couple of years we have purchased items that have turned out to be too broken to repair, so they have sat there gathering dust. Until, eureka, we figured out that we do not have to scrap them and send them off for refining instead we can use them to have hand made coin frames custom made by our amazing jewellers to fit each coin.
This frame is made from a rounded off 9ct gold with three claws and a fabulous tear drop profile bail.
Particulars:
Weight 5.04g of which approx 2.2 g is 9ct gold
Width 28.8 x 20.6 x 2.6mm (thickness measured over claws) 2.1mm over the gold alone
bail opening is approx 6 x 3 mm
Hallmarks - none - made from preloved 9ct gold rings melted and handmade into this frame.
Condition -frame is new and handmade - it is not machine made - so there are natural imperfections. The coin approx 1700 years old and there are evident signs of wear
Please be aware that this item is pre-loved and therefore is NOT new. Please see the pictures and description to ensure you are happy with it before you buy. FAQ
Sizing
What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.
We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.
Current prices are: $40 for sizing down, $40 for rhodium plating (all white gold rings), and sizing up starts at $50 - and depends on the carat of gold, width of band and number of sizes. These are subject to change at any time and remain linked to the volatile changes in precious metals.
Time frames - sizing is usually complete within 3 weeks.
