Finding complete watch chains is becoming rarer than hen's teeth - so we were thrilled to find this gorgeous double watch chain with matching clasps, a t-bar and a fob. One little link had been caught in something strong at some point in the last 106 years and so we knew that needed fixed. Given strict instructions to leave as much of the patina in place as possible our fabulous jewellers put the link back together and soldered it closed - and you can barely tell where the repair happened thanks to their gentle work - plus that patina will come back over time and you will never know.

This double graduated curb is all made by the same firm- William Walter Cashmore. Only the fob is an addition- and each link is meticulously hand stamped. Assay office were paid by jewellers for each stamp they made, and so a chain like this, which is dripping in hallmarks was a mark of its craftsmanship. Both chains on their largest link also bear the WWC mark, along with the t-bar, and both clasps. Made in 1920 this chain would have been worn on the waistcoat and held your keys, matches in your vesta case and all manner of things; plus they were so fashionable for any gent. The fob is still blank and has a lovely rose gold face  - more signs of that craftsmanship.

It is long enough to get around the neck as a short necklace/ choker - but if the new owner wanted a little more breathing room the 2cm of chain in the drop to the fob could be moved. Alternatively any extender would work.

Particulars:

Length - 38.5cm or 15.25 inches - there is another 2cm of links (3cm with jump rings) that could be moved from the fob drop.

Weight 53g

Width chain graduates from 5mm to 7.8mm, 24mm clasps, 39.5mm t-bar and 43.5 x 27mm fob

Hallmarks  - every link hallmarked with lion passant. All chain, t-bar and clasps by William Walter Cashmore of Birmingham from 1920. The fob is by W. Adams Ltd from Birmingham 1920.

Condition - this piece is original and in good condition for its age, some companion wear between links, a small section is slightly more polished than the rest from a link we had repaired. We have left patina in place as it has taken decades to build. Clasps work well.

Care - As a general rule - jewellery should not be worn for strenuous tasks that may put pressure, chemicals and weight on them (think cleaning, gym, swimming/spa, carrying things). Jewellery should be inspected checked every six months by a jeweller to check for wear.

Please be aware that this item is pre-loved and therefore is NOT new. Please see the pictures and description to ensure you are happy with it before you buy. Stones may have tiny marks, chips or flea bites, metal will have marks of wear like surface scratches; but any bigger flaws will be clearly highlighted above. Also note - none of the other items or props in the photo come with the item and all measurements are approximate.

FAQ

Sizing

What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.

We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.

Current prices are: $40 for sizing down, $40 for rhodium plating (all white gold rings), and sizing up starts at $50 - and depends on the carat of gold, width of band and number of sizes. These are subject to change at any time and remain linked to the volatile changes in precious metals.

Time frames - sizing is usually complete within 3 weeks.

Lay-by

Lay-by is available on all full price items (sale items can be bought on a split payment).

As well as Afterpay and Paypal Pay-in-4 which are available at checkout, we also do traditional lay-by.

Valuations

Some of our items come with valuations we either got with the piece, or that we have had done by an independent gemologist. We do not get valuations done on all pieces as we like to keep things as affordable as possible. However, we use a number of instruments to help us determine stones and list these details in the description of each piece.
