The 1930 jewellery era is just so iconic  - the amazing mixed metals that just scream at you of their time and place. Add to the mix an early brilliant or transitional cut diamond - and you have a decade of jewellery perfection. This ring is crisp - which is getting so much harder to find. The raised octagonal white gold setting in which the 3.05mm diamond is claw set, still stands proud and does not have the wear we see on so many rings of this era. The stunning diamond is a transitional cut - identifiable by that checkerboard appearance as she turns. These stones were the transition (hence the name) between the old cut and the modern brilliants and only lasted for a few decades. They are much closer in style to modern brilliants - and so there has been a trend to re-cut these into modern brilliants. This obviously horrifies us - but it makes these stones even rarer.

The white gold extends down the shoulders tapering from the octagon to the width of the band - and in it are beautiful milgrain and raised dot details - and these details remain lovely and clear. From the side profile, the yellow gold emerges - and we love that - that the white gold literally tops the yellow gold.

This ring came to us without hallmarks - so we had it XRF tested - turns out it is about 17.5ct - which given the time period it was made makes it a wonderful one of a kind.

Hallmarks  - none - XRF tested for 17.5ct gold - not hugely surprising given it was made in 1930s

Condition - given its age - this ring has only been lightly worn - it does show signs of an early re-shank - under a loupe there is a line under each shoulder in a slightly different colour gold

FAQ

Sizing

What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.

We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.

Valuations

Some of our items come with valuations we either got with the piece, or that we have had done by an independent gemologist. We do not get valuations done on all pieces as we like to keep things as affordable as possible. However, we use a number of instruments to help us determine stones and list these details in the description of each piece.
