The Edwardian Era (1901- 1910) is one of the shortest Eras in Jewellery history, but most negligee necklaces come from this time period (and up to the 1920s). Although the name sounds sexy, it actually comes from the way strands of pearls with drops had been worn in the preceding years - negligently thrown around the neck in an asymmetric way. This then explains why negligee necklaces by definition have two symmetrical drops of different lengths.

This utterly amazing circa 1910 piece by Melbourne Jeweller Joseph Lawrence features three large natural amethysts, a central oval and two amazing hearts on leaf like seed pearl set tendrils. Perfect for Febraury and Valentines Day, these amazing amethysts are rich in their purple and pink tones and glisten effortlessly. At over 35ct combined weight of Amethyst this is a real treasure. The seed pearl leaves are delicate and so feminine - a very key feature of the Era. With the women's movements also being prominent at this time - the purple and white were strongly associated with the suffragette movement. Purple for dignity and white for purity.

Worn at the clavicles, this necklace is utterly breathtaking. Held on a 9ct gold cable chain with original barrel clasp, this was a very precious item that has been meticulously well looked after.

FAQ

Sizing

What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.

We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.

Some of our items come with valuations we either got with the piece, or that we have had done by an independent gemologist.
