1931 Dutch Rose Cut Garnet, 583 Yellow & Rosey Gold, size 8 or nearly Q
1931 Dutch Rose Cut Garnet, 583 Yellow & Rosey Gold, size 8 or nearly Q
The rose cut garnet is such a fabulous piece of European history and this amazing chunky rose cut beauty is no exception. With a visible face diameter of 8mm and rising prominently from the ring, this garnet is deep in its jam reds - just watch the light dance through those facets and into the belly of this stone. The profile of this ring is as captivating as its juicy colour - those high rose cut facets are just such a wonderful hark to the past- and this is the biggest we have ever found.
Set in a yellow gold just under 14ct setting with slightly rosey shoulders - that appear to have been added later to strengthen the setting. Why just under 14ct? well, between 1906 and 1953 (when this ring was assayed) the standard was 583 parts of gold (not the 585 we now have as 14ct gold). We love that these hallmarks give us such history and knowledge - hard to believe that in the shape of the strike and the internal pattern we can deduce so much. Furthermore, this ring is appears to be from 1931 - the external hallmarks are still visible and suggest that it was assayed in Amsterdam in 1931 by the "W" last letter.

FAQ
Sizing
What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.
We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.
