In our opinions there isn't a sparkle that compares with an old cut sparkle. Those hand polished facets around a high crown, a much smaller table and that amazing open culet. The culet (the flat facet on the bottom of the stone due to lack of precision tools) has become the calling card for the old cut - it is what enthusiasts like us look for when we are out sourcing. The culet on this stone is offset - if you look at the photos - you will see it winking back at you from the edge of the table.

Set in platinum - this is a classic 1930s ring - the old cut diamond (which were being phased out at the time), the use of platinum for the setting (both a strong metal and a very lovely white metal to make the stone brighter) and the mixing of gold and platinum. This particular shade of gold is not one we have seen before. It is the palest gold we have ever come across (or the darkest white gold) and we love its uniqueness. A soft gentle gold that takes over from the strong white metal of the platinum. (Side note - if you wanted it all white metal you could rhodium plate the band - but as it is it will only need checked - those colours will stay as they are).

This ring is in lovely condition - a pronounced setting, strong shoulder and the band is lovely and thick and shows no signs of thinning that others of this age can. A couple of the claw tips are a little worn - but the stone is safe and secure - and benefits from 8 claws all up.

Particulars:

Size P1/2 (sizeable)

Weight 2.75g

Width 6.4 x 6.5mm x 6.3mm proud on sloping shoulders - leading to a half round shank of 2.25 x 1mm

Stone 4mm x 4mm x 2.4mm - old cuts are notoriously hard to work out sizes - but all the calculations we have done suggest avout 0.24ct - we have gone with 0.22ct to be safe.

Hallmarks  "18CT PLAT"

Condition - some of the claw tips have wear - the stone is safe - checked by our jeweller prior to listing. The collet face sits proud - and the shoulders are strong, as is the band.

Care - As a general rule - jewellery should not be worn for strenuous tasks that may put pressure, chemicals and weight on them (think cleaning, gym, swimming/spa, carrying things). Jewellery should be inspected every six months by a jeweller to check for wear.

Please be aware that this item is pre-loved and therefore is NOT new. Please see the pictures and description to ensure you are happy with it before you buy. Stones may have tiny marks, chips or flea bites, metal will have marks of wear like surface scratches; but any bigger flaws will be clearly highlighted above. Also note - none of the other items or props in the photo come with the item and all measurements are approximate.

FAQ

Sizing

What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.

We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.

Lay-by

As well as Afterpay and Paypal Pay-in-4 which are available at checkout, we also do traditional lay-by.

So, if you love this piece but can't afford it right now - please get in touch.

To secure your item, we require a 20% non-refundable deposit. Items will not be removed from the website until this is paid.

Following this, you will need to make further monthly payments of 20% until the full balance is complete, a time frame of 5 months in total.

Invoices will be issued at the start of each month and we ask they are paid before the start of the following month.

We issue all invoices through the website, and it accepts all cards, Shop Pal, Paypal and Afterpay as payment.

Valuations

Some of our items come with valuations we either got with the piece, or that we have had done by an independent gemologist. We do not get valuations done on all pieces as we like to keep things as affordable as possible. However, we use a number of instruments to help us determine stones and list these details in the description of each piece.
