Cartouches are just so wonderful and deep in their history and our nerd hearts are full. First, the word cartouche is actually from the French for bullet as when the French were in Egypt they remarked how similar the shape with the flat and rounded end are like a bullet. The Egyptian word for this rope encasing is actually "shen" with the idea that the rope represents your moment in eternity - it loops around your existence and then the rope runs forward and backwards into eternity - so it became a symbol for the infinite - and being remembered infinitely. The Shen is also said to be a protective barrier - and this is why Pharaoh's used them on their graves - it protected their names - kept them sacred. So this is a literal good luck talisman in super chunky gold.
This cartouche ring is an exact copy of the Cartouche on the Burial Chamber of
Thutmose the Great. Each Pharaoh had their birth name and their throne name inscribed on their tombs - this one is of his throne name (𓇳𓏠𓆣) which is pronounced Menkhepperra 𓇳𓏠𓆣. We love the detail in this ring - the rope that is tied on the flat end, the detail in the scarab beetle and the dark patina build up. This is a ring made with love and a lot of gold - over 9g in this single ring.

FAQ
Sizing
What do we mean when we say a ring is "sizeable"? Well, most standard rings can be made bigger or smaller by up to three letter sizes. If we say the item is "moderately sizeable", this usually means about 1 size, and if we say it is "not sizeable" or that "sizing is not recommended" it will be due to the construction - it could be age related, pattern related, have enamel etc.
We can happily help with sizing of rings, so please do get it touch if we can give you a quote.
