Well, when they were polishing by hand diamonds in the Victorian times (and before - and slightly after) they could not get a precise point on the bottom. Just consider the technology needed for that. So instead, an old cut has an extra facet on the bottom which reveals itself as a dot through the table of the diamond. These are the things we search for and make our hearts sing. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThis fabulous set of five old cut diamonds were likely family jewels - inherited and harvested from older pieces. These have then been handmade into this fabulous half hoop. Made of buttery 18ct gold (the acid test also almost holds 22ct - so it is probably somewhere in between and would explain that richness of colour). All claw set these stones scream personality and vintage charm. One side old cut is chipped and included, all five stones have personality.
