Colour change corundum (the official name for sapphire) was invented to try to simulate the amazing colour change of alexandrite. This stone is very pinky purple in sunlight and an almost bluey purple in indoor lighting - and in a stone of this size, the colour change is wonderfully noticeable. The approximately 7ct oval stone is held in a rose gold bezel setting that would have had milgraining around it - but now it is mostly smooth. There is a rattle to the setting - which is fairly common in stones of this size in bezel settings - and we have had it checked by our jeweller, who says it is secure. The lovely raised scroll shoulders really highlight the colour of the rose gold and offer lovely finger spread for the whole ring.
